Source“Well, I didn't ask to get made! I didn't ask to be torn apart and put back together all over and over and turned into some... some little monster!”―Rocket's crippling hidden pain[src]Rocket Raccoon is a Marvel Comics superhero and a major character of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is one of the titular protagonists of the Guardians of the Galaxy duology, one of the deuteragonists of Avengers: Infinity War, and one of the titular protagonists of Avengers: Endgame.
Rocket is an intelligent alien resembling an anthropomorphic raccoon with expert marksmanship and is a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Rocket Raccoon was created by Bill Mantlo and Keith Giffen.
Background
Personality
“I know you act like you're the meanest and the hardest, when really you're the most scared of all! I know you steal batteries you don't need and push away anyone who's willing to put up with you because just a little bit of love reminds you of just how big and empty that hole inside you actually is.”―Yondu describing who Rocket is[src]Rocket is easily enraged and aggressive. He often gets insecure when people do not treat him as an equal and give him the same respect they would give a common animal. But this wisecracking raccoon is nothing short of lovable. Much like Yondu, his fear and insecurity prompt him to conceal his genuine concern for his friends.
Physical appearance
Rocket is a genetically engineered talking raccoon who wears an orange battle suit. In many aspects he is very much alike a normal raccoon, his body being only subtly different from a regular animal at first glance. Whilst his face is not very different from that of a normal raccoon (albeit perhaps with a greater ability for facial expressiveness), he does however posses a slightly human-like body structure, his legs being longer and oriented to line up with his body more than on a normal raccoon, enhancing his ability to walk upright. His hips and torso also appear to have been restructured to enhance bipedality, and his shoulders and upper arms also appear fairly human-like. These differences are not drastic however, and seem to not greatly compromise his ability to move on all four, as he is shown to be able to do so in the movie. It could perhaps be said that Rocket's body is semi-anthropomorphic in most respects. In addition to being genetically altered, Rocket is shown to have cybernetic implants within his body.

Rocket and Groot looking for bounties.
Subject 89P13 was the result of illegal genetic and cybernetic experiments on a lower life form. He called himself Rocket when he began his career as a bounty-hunter. As a result of his illegal activities Rocket was imprisoned on twenty-two occasions; but from all he managed to escape. Rocket and Groot went to Xandar in search of employment. Here, they found Star-Lord, who weighed about a reward of forty thousand units. As they desired that reward, he and Groot were involved in the fight between Star-Lord and Gamora for the Orb.
Due to the scandal they caused in Xandar, he, Groot, Gamora, and Star-Lord were sent to the Kyln. Upon arrival, Rocket claimed that he had escaped from twenty-two prisons before. Rocket and Groot saved Star-Lord, who was being harassed by another prisoner. He informs the rest of the prisoners Star-Lord is their booty and if they wanted him they had to pass over them. That same night, Rocket saw Star-Lord get up to save Gamora. He advised him to not interfere, however Quill saved Gamora from Drax and the other prisoners. Then Rocket, Gamora, Groot, and Star-Lord decide to join together to escape, sell the Orb and to divide the profits between the four.
The next day, while Rocket, Gamora, and Star-Lord planned the escape, Groot decides to skip to the last step of the plan and cut off the quarnyx battery. Rocket was very frustrated due to Groot's action. Drax then stepped in and got him a weapon with which he could defend itself. Eventually, Rocket, Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot, and Drax manages to escape. During the trip, Rocket built bombs to spend time (despite the displeasure of Star-Lord). Arriving at Knowhere, the group went to Boot of Jemiah to hang out. After being pleasantly playing with Drax and Groot, Rocket gets drunk and fights with Drax. Rocket was very upset because he hated being called "Rodent" and "Vermin"; Star-Lord calms him saying that he should only support one more night and he will be rich.
A drunken Rocket starts to threaten Drax.
Peter's efforts were almost thrown away when the Collector called Rocket "Groot's pet". The Collector told them the story of Infinity Stones but he was not interested because he wanted to have his pay. When the Collector was preparing the pay, Carina decides to grab the Orb with the purpose of becoming powerful to kill the Collector, which caused a huge explosion. After the explosion, Rocket ask Star-Lord why he still had the Orb in his possession. He also suggested to deliver the Stone to Ronan. He along with Gamora and Star-Lord fled when Ronan and his troops arrived in Knowhere looking for the Orb. He watched as Nebula exploded the ship where Gamora was traveling. Rocket advised Star-Lord to left Gamora to die, however Star-Lord decide to ignore it and save Gamora again. Rocket the watched as Yondu abduct Star-Lord and Gamora.
Rocket returned to Knowhere annoyed by Star-Lord's attitude. He told Groot they should flee before Ronan find them. Groot instead did not want to leave Gamora and Star-Lord. Rocket was very skeptical but he is finally convinced by Groot. He threatens Yondu and Ravagers by exploit their ship, if they did not free Gamora and Star-Lord; unaware that Yondu and Star-Lord made a deal. Before the final battle, the team gathered to devise a plan which would defeat Ronan and they would get the Orb for Yondu.

During the battle, Rocket was entrusted to protect civilians and prevent an attack of Necrocraft to Xandar. As the others were defeated by Ronan, he then decides impact the Milano against Dark Aster. Groot knowing that the ship would impact in seconds against Xandar, he decides to create a shield with his body to protect his friends. Rocket asks him not to do it, but Groot already had taken its decision. After the impact, while he mourned the loss of his best friend, Ronan appears without any damage. Rocket tried to attack but only he is blasted by Ronan. When Ronan was ready to destroy Xandar, Star-Lord distracts him by a dance off allowing Rocket and Drax repair the Hadron Enforcer.
He and Drax destroy the Universal Weapon by a blast and allowing Quill grab the gem, which almost kills him. Gamora, Rocket, and Drax come to his aid and the four use the Orb's power to blast Ronan, killing him. After the battle, they learn that Quill descends from an ancient alien race. Rhomman Dey also informs them that their criminal records were erased. The Guardians left Xandar in the rebuilt Milano accompanied by a twig recovered from Groot, which was already regrowing.
After the battle of Xandar the Guardians of the Galaxy are being famous. Rocket and the other Guardians of the Galaxy continue to protect the galaxy and Groot becomes a baby despite still having memories of his life as an adult but he has a baby body, the Guardians being employed by Ayesha for killing a Obellysk who wants steal their batteries.
After killing the Obellysk, Ayesha thanks the Guardians and gives to them as a recompense Nebula, who was arrested for trying to steal the batteries. Though Nebula is given in custody to the Guardians, Rocket impulsively steals the batteries for revenge towards Ayesha's condescending words to them. To the Guardians' dismay, this angers Ayesha and the other Sovereign that the race chases after the Milano after their departure.
Pursued by the Sovereign in space, the Milano is boarded by a mysterious man who helps the Guardians escape alive and with a semi-destroyed Milano crash landing on the planet Berhert. The Guardians discover their mysterious savior is Ego, the biological father of Quill who wants to reunite with his son. The Guardians agree to Ego's invitation and have Rocket and Groot remain in the woods to repair the Milano and to keep guard of Nebula.
That night, some Ravagers attack the Milano convinced that Rocket is there thanks to a vocal registration of his voice, but Rocket is actually hidden in a tree for him to activate electrical and explosive traps to incapacitate the Ravagers; he keeps them occupied for some time until Rocket runs out of his "toys" and has to fight on his own, but he is overwhelmed by the Ravagers and Yondu's arrow. Yondu explains Ayesha employed the Ravagers to capture the Guardians because she want kill them, however Yondu subsequently admits he wanted to call off the deal. Unfortunately, the other Ravagers, primarily Taserface, are displeased with these conditions and start a mutiny against Yondu. Yondu's fin is destroyed by Nebula, who joins the Ravagers as they proceed to take Rocket, Groot, and Yondu prisoner.
On board the Ravagers' ship, the mutineers execute the Ravagers still loyal to Yondu. While listening to Taserface's self appointment as captain, a restrained Rocket openly derides Taserface's name. Vexed by his mockery, Taserface threatens to kill Rocket until he is convinced by Nebula to keep the captives alive and turn them in to the Kree, who would be wanting retribution for Ronan the Accuser's death. After being imprisoned, Rocket and Groot reconcile and plan to escape through calling Groot, who has been abused by the Ravagers. Groot misinterprets their request however, until Kraglin Obfonteri steps in to retrieve Yondu's protective fin and his arrow as a sign of his loyalty to Yondu. Rocket, Yondu and Groot, accompanied by the song "Come A Get Closer", free themselves from their prison and kill all the mutineer Ravagers with the arrow, then Yondu kills Taserface by hitting a gas tank but this causes the ship to start to explode. Fortunately, Yondu, Rocket, Groot and Kraglin escape on an escape pod and they head off to save Quill from Ego but for him to do that, he, Yondu, Groot and Kraglin must travel trough several black holes. Rocket sets the Quadrant to jump to Ego unaware that it required a limit of seven hundred jumps, which causes the passengers' faces to disfigure as they travel.
After recovering from the jump, Udonta asks Rocket why he wants save Quill, which Rocket claims so he could rub it in his face forever; Udonta however confronts Rocket telling him he understands who Rocket is due to sharing mutually-painful past. Yondu then informs Rocket to be prepared as they will be fighting a planet, confusing and worrying Rocket. The group then fly down on Ego's surface with a laser drill, where they crash right into Ego's palace on crushing Ego's human avatar to save Quill. The rest of the Guardians and Nebula then board the ship, the latter of whom Rocket becomes hostile towards from Nebula's attempt on his life, but the cyborg retorts she saved his life and calls him a fox with Groot. In the interest of time, Rocket lets their dispute side while the Guardians plan to stop Ego once and for all by planting a bomb in his brain. Quill, Rocket, and Groot go to where the brain is. Because Groot is the only one small enough to fit in the tunnels, Rocket, worried that Groot will make the bomb explode with them still there, tries to explain Groot which button he must push but Groot doesn't understand it and with the bomb he goes to Ego's brain to Rocket's anxiety. Groot luckily pushes the right button, giving the Guardians five minutes to escape until the planet explodes.
As they evacuate the planet, Yondu decides to remain behind to rescue Quill despite Rocket protesting to Yondu to escape with them. Ultimately accepting his decision, Rocket gives Yondu an aero-rig and a space suit to make him an honorary Guardian. All the Guardians, except Quill and Yondu, safely depart on the escape pod and they wait out for Quill and Yondu once the bomb sets off, killing Ego and the planet. Yondu and Quill escape into space thanks to the aero-rig, but Yondu activates his space suit on Quill, and the conditions of the vacuum claim Yondu's life to Quill's horror.
After the Guardians retrieve the pair, they hold a funeral for Yondu. When the personal funeral is over, Rocket mourns Yondu's passing and sends out a message to invite the other Ravager clans to give Yondu a Ravager funeral - watching Yondu's remains scattered into space. As they watch the spectacle, Rocket and Quill finally comes to understand that Yondu's words to Rocket meant Yondu was talking about himself when he compared himself to Rocket.
Rocket is seen traveling across the universe with his fellow Guardians when he comes across the injured Thor. As he and the rest of the Guardians heal Thor, Thor informs the Guardians of Thanos' impending attack. The Guardians then split—one party heads to Knowhere to retrieve the Reality Stone while Rocket, alongside Groot, accompany Thor to Nidhavellir to provide Thor a new weapon that can defeat Thanos. He provides Thor with a cybernetic eye to replace the one Thor lost in Thor: Ragnarok, as well as comfort to Thor after Thor feels sad about being one of the few remaining Asgardians left. Once Thor acquires his new weapon, he teleports himself and his allies back to Earth in the middle of the Black Order's invasion. Rocket joins the battle in Wakanda against the Outriders, but he (alongside Nebula) is the only Guardian left after Thanos kills Gamora to obtain the Soul Stone and the other Guardians are erased from existence by the Decimation, Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet-powered finger snap.
Rocket along with Nebula, join the Avengers after the Decimation event. They travel back in time with the rest of the surviving heroes in order to retrieve the Infinity Stones and the Infinity Gauntlet. They succeed, and after Hulk/Bruce Banner uses the Infinity Gauntlet to undo the snap and bring everyone back to life, Rocket joins the other heroes in their fight against Thanos and his army of Chitauri, Outriders and the Black Order. Once the battle was over, Rocket was reunited with his fellow Guardians, with Thor joining the ranks.
Rocket in Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
Rocket Raccoon, along with the other Guardians of the Galaxy, comes to Earth in order to hunt down Michael Korvac.
Rocket Raccoon was a master strategist with a laser gun and rocket pack. But he is not actually a Raccoon as his alien species just resembles the Earth Raccoon. He is is a leading member of the Guardians of the Galaxy alongside Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Groot, and Nova, whom he served as a mentor for.
The Guardians battle the Chitauri an alien race led by Korvac. When Rocket Raccoon's ship is pulled into the Chitauri ship, Rocket fakes surrender so that they can free the captive Guardians of the Galaxy members. Afterwards, Spider-Man discovers that the Chitauri are planning to destroy the Earth. The Guardians plan to run the Chitauri ship into the sun while fighting the Chitauri forces. When their tactic does not work, the Guardians end up making their way towards the Dark Matter Cannon. While Nova and Spider-Man head to the Dark Matter Cannon, the Guardians fight the Chitauri and Korvac. After Korvac is defeated by Groot, Nova destroys the Dark Matter Cannon and the Chitauri ship is destroyed.

Trivia
According to the filmmakers, Rocket is a unique product of experimentation: "He's a little animal that was taken and experimented on and pulled apart and put back together again and implanted with cybernetics and he's half-machine and half-raccoon. And he's a gnarled, miserable, angry creature because there's nothing else like him. And that's something not easy to be." This uniqueness may be why the fingersnap spared him, as there are no others like him and thus the snap would have no reason to erase him.Rocket was modeled after a raccoon living in the UK named Oreo.Being inspired by "Rocky Raccoon" by The Beatles, the lyrics "Rocky had come equipped with a gun" may have inspired the fact that Rocket wields a machine gun after saying "Oh, yeah!" during his departure from the Kyln prison.Rocket and Nebula are the only two Guardians to have officially joined the Avengers.According to James Gunn, Groot's last words to Rocket, before being disintegrated by Thanos, translate to "Dad".References
